The self care we're sold on social media is watered down and exclusionary at best. It's no secret, wellness is gate kept by those looking for a payout. The rest of us who can't spend hundred of dollars a month on doctors visits, therapy, massages, esthetics, etc. are left wondering if wellness is even FOR us? This sentiment is why I feel so passionate about empowering you with knowledge to care for yourself in free and accessible ways. So to quell my quickly moving brain, I'll be sharing what I know through this brand. If this is speaking to you, I'd love to stay connected. Take Care, Abby

Bus Life/Travel Updates
One day my husband and I were scrolling on Facebook market place and found a shuttle bus for sale. Traveling full time and doing van life has always been a dream of ours, so we decided to buy it that day. Since then we have been working to build a tiny home on it. We are still far from done, but are enjoying the process. Stay tuned for updates!

Hey all, Abby Simpson here

I’m the face behind hootenanny!
I am a massage therapist, hobby rock climber, and van life/travel aficionado based in Boise, ID. Back in 2020, after I had been a dance instructor for several years, I decided that it was time for a career change. I needed to learn something new and get myself a “big girl job”. Right after I graduated massage school I embarked on the journey of building a massage therapy business called Mend Bodywork with my previous business partner. After a few years of owning and operating a quickly expanding business, I realized that the lifestyle wasn’t for me. Since the summer of 2024 I have been working solely for myself, as it gives me the freedom I need to thrive. A love for learning & educating is at the heart of everything I do. Working with lots of chronic pain, autoimmune, and high risk clients has pushed me to improve my practice as often as I can. I currently have specializations in corrective exercise, cupping, fascial stretching, lymphatic drainage, & trauma informed care. In a session with me you can expect to be listened to from the start. Before the session begins we will create a plan together – making sure all your problem areas are addressed. During the session I will check in as needed to make sure pressure is in that “hurts so good” realm. No massage is going to look the same. Our bodies’ needs vary daily –  you may need superficial fascial work, stretching, cupping, lymphatic drainage, more attention to the nervous system, deep tissue, lighter pressure, etc. The most fun part of massage, for me, is the detective work. I love digging into the root of the problem. If you don’t need a massage, I won’t waste your time, I will send you to get the help you ACTUALLY need. After a session you will almost always receive homework specific to your needs. Often, I will give stretches, exercises, & referrals that encourage you to sustain wellness at home. You should feel empowered with forward momentum about your health. At the end of the day, I love what I do. I am not someone who can thrive without passion & connection and my job is no exception. If you read this and I sound like a good match, I’d love to meet you. I am currently taking new massage & lymphatic drainage clients. If you’re still unsure if I’m the right fit or have further questions – please book a free consult call. I can’t wait to help you with your healing journey. Take care, Abby
If you choose to follow along you will get a peek into my very human approach to finding balance, updates about my husband and I’s bus build (we’re building a tiny home on a bus to live in), and massage therapy information. If this is speaking to you, I’d love to stay connected.

The inspiration behind hootenanny!

My late mother Marie grew up in the rural mountains of northern Idaho and often spoke fondly of something called a hootenanny. Everyone would gather together with their handmade instruments and play music together. It was always described as a time of connectedness and joy that she longed for after moving to the big city of Boise. She always found ways to bring that spirit into our lives. From dance parties in the kitchen to opening her home to anyone who needed love, she was always adding lighthearted laughter wherever she went. This new chapter in my life is defined by her tenacity. She held a stubborn determination to not take life so seriously. Although I miss her dearly, her spirit lives on. I hope you can take some hootenanny spirit with you too.
